Machine Polishing
The entry level for light swirls, wash marring and lost gloss where a full multi-stage correction is unnecessary.

Swirls, wash marks, holograms and dull, tired paint are a machine polishing problem, not a cleaning one. We assess the finish first, then recommend the lightest treatment that will actually change what you are looking at.

Service first. Location second. The same preparation standard wherever the van is working.
The honest diagnosis
Almost every swirl mark on a used car was put there by washing. Automatic brushes, dirty sponges, single-bucket washing and drying with the wrong towel all drag grit across the clear coat. Under direct sun or LED light that damage shows as a spiderweb pattern, and no amount of cleaning will remove it, because the defect is in the paint, not on it.
Machine polishing removes a controlled amount of clear coat to level those defects. That is why the level matters. A single refinement pass can transform a lightly marred daily driver. Deeper scratches, holograms from a previous bad polish, or oxidised paint need enhancement or multi-stage work. Each step costs more time and removes more clear coat, so the honest recommendation is the lightest one that gets you the result you actually care about.
We will tell you when correction is not the right spend. A car being sold next month, a lease return, or a finish with thin or repainted panels may be better served by a lower-cost service or a more conservative treatment. That conversation happens before booking, not after the machine is out.

These are the strongest matches for West Lothian. Prices come from the main service catalogue and rise only where vehicle size, condition or the treatment specification changes.

For stone chips and through-to-primer damage that polishing cannot address and which look worse once the surrounding paint is corrected.

The treatment standard stays fixed. Access, vehicle condition and the space available determine whether the mobile setup is right for the job.
Paint that looks fine on a grey West Lothian morning can look very different under inspection lighting. We assess under proper light so the agreed level is based on the real defect load, not a flattering photo.
Cars doing the M8 and M9 daily tend to carry stone chipping, bonded fallout and etching on the front end alongside general wash marring. Those need different handling, and some chips are a repair job rather than a polishing one.
Freshly corrected paint is bare and unprotected. Finishing with a sealant or coating, and switching to safe washing afterwards, is what stops the swirls returning within a few months.
The VDS treatment plan
01
Send the West Lothian postcode, vehicle details and honest photos. We identify the likely service and flag anything that needs an inspection.
02
You get a clear treatment, price basis, expected result and access requirements. If a smaller package will solve it, that is what we recommend.
03
We complete the agreed work, inspect the finish and hand the vehicle back with the aftercare that applies to the service—not a generic sales script.

Practical coverage
This is a useful coverage guide, not a promise that every street suits every service. Postcode, access, weather and—for coating work—shelter are confirmed before booking.
Cloudy headlights, engine-bay grime or a persistent cabin smell may need a separate treatment. Send your postcode and photos; we confirm access, suitability and availability before booking.
Straight answers
Send daylight photos with the vehicle details and we will give you a considered starting point. For higher-value cars or heavier defects, an inspection under proper lighting is more reliable than photos and we will arrange one before committing to a level.
No. If a scratch catches your fingernail it is usually through the clear coat and cannot be safely polished out. Those are improved rather than erased, or referred to chip repair or bodywork. We identify which is which before starting.
When done properly, yes. It removes a small, controlled amount of clear coat. Risk comes from repeated aggressive correction or from working on thin or previously repainted panels, which is why history and condition are assessed first and depth readings are used on multi-stage work.
The correction itself is permanent until new damage is introduced. How long it looks corrected depends entirely on washing. Automatic brush washes will reintroduce swirls quickly. Safe washing and a sealant or coating will hold the result for years.
